Grateful Head

31 Mar

While my subconscious flirted with erotic supposition, my conscious arbitrarily assumed; a take off on The Grateful Dead. Probably a hair salon, I continued to rationalize. The streetcar moved north through the realm of Roncesvalles. The sign disappeared.

On the remote possibility you haven’t heard of The Grateful Dead: www.dead.net

Later, I checked it out when I was on Roncesvalles shopping. It’s a hair salon.

As happens every few months, I needed my hair done. I was thinking roots, refresh and a trim. I recalled the grateful head sign. I checked it out on-line. www.gratefulheadcollective.com

Their prices are typical of nice salons, but they don’t take credit cards. It’s cash or Interact only. Cash limited me to a dye-job and blow out. To blow or to not blow out with the dye job were my only options at grateful head. I’d heard one of the girls at The Local K&WB got her hair done there. I’m doing a local blog. I went wild, and booked a blind appointment.

The interior is done in plastic-fantastic romantic boho, rock’n'roll  grunge style. The distressed walls are quite clean and juxtaposed nicely with the apparently flocked wallpaper. I didn’t actually touch it. Who goes around feeling wall paper?  Oval mirrors,  electric guitars, chandelier action and a red with black scheme added up to a pleasant environment.

My hair stylist was totally cute with tattoos. I said, cover my roots and refresh my color, a rich brown, no foils and no trim. It came out darker than I thought it would. Yes, it’s still a shade of brown, but I need to be well lit and standing next to black  to notice.

Well, I’m thinking, why split hairs on a shade?

Today is a few days later. I used the sample shampoo and conditioner they gave me when I washed my hair, which I air dried. It’s smooth and soft. There are some broken hairs, but I believe they are mostly from the last stylist.

Hair color affects our faces. Changes can be dramatic. Have you seen your face change when you switched the color of your hair?  It had been years since I’d seen my dark hair face. I’d gone through the red hair face, the auburn with black low lights and mid brown with caramel phases only to end up back near black. Huh?

I’m also back to my first thoughts: Grateful Dead inspiration or erotic supposition?

Love the hood!

I shouldn’t say the colour “feels” familiar, but it “looks” familiar. My hair colour is now the same as when I was 9 years old! My mom saved my long braid and it’s a perfect match!
